Taiwan uses 110V, 60Hz with sockets and plugs Type A and Type B.

Banknotes come in denominations of 2000, 1000, 500, 200 and 100 dollars. Dollar is subdivided into 100 cents. Coins come in denominations of 50, 20, 10, 5 and 1 dollars and 50 cents.

Tipping is usually not expected in Taiwan. However, if you are satisfied with the service provided you can show your appreciation by leaving a small ‘extra’ tip. Receipts usually include a service charge. If there is a service charge there is no need to tip.

Automatic teller machines (local names: ATM or 自動櫃員機 (縮寫)) are rare in Taiwan. Your best bet is to look for them in large cities and community places.

You do not need a chip & PIN card to use an ATM — your standard magnetic card will work fine.

Internet speed in Taiwan is on average 12.9 Mbps which is 146% faster than in Malaysia (5.2 Mbps).

WiFi coverage in Taiwan is moderate. It's relatively easy to find one when needed.

You can buy a SIM card for about 311.79 TWD (41.66 MYR), which includes 1 GB of data plan. You can choose from 4 telecoms: Chunghwa Telecom, FarEasTone, T Star or Taiwan Mobile.

Taiwan uses similar GSM mobile networks (GSM 900 and GSM 1800) as Malaysia so you should be able to normally use your mobile phone.

If you don't want to buy SIM card in Taiwan upon arrival, make sure to check the roaming charges with your telecom provider before your departure so there are no surprises when you return home.

Homosexuality is legal in Taiwan.
